Kalasha Peoples Call for Cultural Survival

Not because we are indigenous peoples, but because we are human beings with indigenous culture, language and our unique ways of being human, should our defense and protection be a matter of highest priority concern for all people the world over who care about human rights

Representation of minority memebers in Parliment

(ISLAMABAD): Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz on Sunday said lack of interfaith and inter-cultural understanding is a major challenge for today and called upon people belonging to different faiths to work harder for the promotion of interfaith harmony to make the world a better place to live. The prime minister said it is for the first time in the country’s history that minorities have been given dual right to vote which allows them to vote for general seats as well as for the seats reserved for them. He said the establishment of the Minorities Affairs Division and appointment of a minority MNA as a minister of state, increased representation of 10 minority members in parliament are some of the steps taken by the government to increase the participation of minorities in the decision making process).

Considering the total population of Kalasha people which numbers not more than 3500. There are no more than 1500 registered voters, No Kalasha representative has ever made it the provincial assembly as compare to the population and number of voters in other minorities so its practically impossible to have Kalasha representation in the Parliament. Geographically Kalasha valleys are located in the North of Pakistan in the west of Chitral. There is no other native minority group that lives along side Kalasha as most of the minorities reside in cities, the closest city to Chitral is Peshawar which is about 350 kilometers. The distance is not only the hurdle for cultural understanding but also city life and incentives differ from each that in the valleys. The Kalasha community distinctive life style and traditions are closely linked with agriculture and animal keeping. A non-native minority representative for Kalasha is very much unlikely to understand the native means of living and needs of the community and landscape as they unquestionably differ from that in the city. Over the years the projects handled through the non-native minority representatives have proven inconsistent, unproductive and constructions that look incredibly ugly in the landscape. May be the government should consider different policy for the Kalasha people on indigenous status.

Kalasha consonant Clusters

May hatya pata hawau ki Mr,Br,Kr bes’ awaz ne zhe te alphabet mocuna ne mishay shian.Kitap as akher una warek warak un chutyak sudayakan askani as bati Talim khana darkhast una thay shian.Asi Kay angrezi mondr una “Constant Cluster” maan.
Kalasha mocan site, tasi bara una Ujak mondr dikas bati.tasi taraki as bati zhe maskul gi as bati….koki tan mocuna khal paida karikas bati shiau.Homa tan mocuna mashbara zhe phaisila kay krom kareli.

It has been brought to my attention that the Kalasha Alphabet(Alibe),letters like mr, br, kr etc are not sperate sounds and not been added to the alphabet but added as seprate chart of constant clusters at the end of the book. This was done at the request of Talim Khan who found in his teaching that his new readers were confused by these clusters and he wanted to have them listed so he could teach them to new readers. They were listed in the back along with consonant clusters like ph, th, and kh.
Kalas’a people.org serves a right cultral forum for all kalasha and presents news and commentary on all events that occur within the kalasha community with strong sense of sincerity and love for the culture itself.Posting and articles are truely ment to engage and encourage people particularly kalasha in discussions and thought process towards written kalasha language to develop unity, harmony and understanding among them by creating literature.
